Many buyers will get their pre-approval from their lender, sign contracts to purchase and then start the loan process only to find out later on that they did something they shouldn’t have that will now jeopardize whether they get the mortgage or not. Set forth below are the most common Do’s and Don’ts that you should be aware of during the mortgage process.

- Do stay current on all your existing credit cards and other accounts.
- Do keep working at your current employer.
- Do keep the same insurance company.
- Do continue using credit as usual.
- Don’t make any major purchases. (car, furniture, refrigerator, etc.)
- Don’t apply for new credit. (even if you’re “preapproved”)
