Must I provide my social security number on my co-op contract?

Absolutely not. Although the form contract has a ‘”fill in the blank” for both seller and purchaser social security numbers, it is not recommended to put this information on the contract. In the age of identity theft, it makes no  sense that this information is on the contract, a copy of which can easily end up in the hands of all board members and many employees at the office of the managing agent’s office. Provide your attorney with your social security number, but ask that it not be disclosed unless and until it is absolutely necessary. The Law Office of William J. Reinhardt, Jr. is available to assist both sellers and purchasers with their transactions. Call 718-377-8880 or e-mail for a free consultation.
